2024 Kia EV9 — coolant is old by age but mileage is low

HybridDetailer348Community StarterFeb 14, 20262024 Kia EV9 GT-LineLong Island
2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line, about 36,500 miles. The vehicle has relatively few miles but the coolant is several years old. I am trying to prioritize maintenance by actual risk. Would you replace based on time alone?

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Kia EV9 does it — then decide on parts. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Kia EV9, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Quick add on that: Capture voltage while the 2024 Kia EV9 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Kia EV9 is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. That's the whole play. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

I'd push back a little: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Kia EV9 and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Stop there until you know. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Kia EV9, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Kia EV9 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Kia EV9 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “coolant is old by age but mileage,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Kia EV9 and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Kia EV9 in Long Island with 36,500 miles. No need to make it theatrical. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Kia EV9 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Do that first. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

If it were in my driveway, capture voltage while the 2024 Kia EV9 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2024 Kia EV9 in Long Island with 36,500 miles. That's the whole play. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Checking again after work.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Kia EV9 is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Kia EV9 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. No need to make it theatrical. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.
