2024 Tesla Model Y — check-engine light turned itself off — still scan it? — buyer question from Brooklyn

TrailBuyerCommunity StarterJul 12, 20262024 Tesla Model Y Long RangeBrooklyn
The light was on for two days and then disappeared before I could schedule service. Car feels normal. Is there still likely to be useful stored or pending data if I scan it now? I am in Brooklyn.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Tesla Model Y does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Brooklyn. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Tesla Model Y, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Ask what changed right before it started. Capture voltage while the 2024 Tesla Model Y is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. Stop there until you know. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Log the conditions before you spend. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Tesla Model Y again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If it were in my driveway, two 2024 Tesla Model Ys can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Brooklyn. That's the sequence I'd use. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Brooklyn. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2024 Tesla Model Y and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Capture voltage while the 2024 Tesla Model Y is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. No need to make it theatrical. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.
