CPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

ShiftMom79Community StarterMar 31, 20262024 Ford Mustang GTCalifornia
2024 Ford Mustang GT, about 37,000 miles. Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them? I'm in California. Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Ford Mustang price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Ford Mustang numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'd rather be boring and correct. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In California, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Ford Mustang in California with 37,000 miles. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Call your insurer in California before you fall in love with the 2024 Ford Mustang. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.
