Fun daily that still works for one-car ownership

MileageDailyCommunity StarterNov 20, 20252023 Lincoln Navigator ReserveNationwide
I want something I enjoy on back roads but still need to commute, carry luggage and survive bad weather. Trying to avoid buying a car that only makes sense on paper. What compromises have actually mattered after a year? I'm in Nationwide. Trying to diagnose before I book a shop.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Lincoln Navigator numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Lincoln Navigator and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Nationwide, insurance quotes flipped a 2023 Lincoln Navigator comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2023 Lincoln Navigator in Nationwide. The universe charges extra for guessing. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Nationwide before you fall in love with the 2023 Lincoln Navigator. If they balk, that's your answer. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator and the doc fee was the tell. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

This is from a 2023 Lincoln Navigator in Nationwide. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2023 Lincoln Navigator quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2023 Lincoln Navigator quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2023 Lincoln Navigator notes. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Ask for out-the-door on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Yes, with one caveat: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2023 Lincoln Navigator quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2023 Lincoln Navigator price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2023 Lincoln Navigator in Nationwide. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2023 Lincoln Navigator. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Nationwide changed the 2023 Lincoln Navigator comparison more than the sale price did. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
MileageDailyCommunity StarterCommunity StarterNov 21, 2025permalink
I asked about car ownership again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Lincoln Navigator in Nationwide. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2023 Lincoln Navigator quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.
