1968 Ford Mustang Fastback — high transmission temperature after several hard laps

1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, about 14,500 miles. After several laps the transmission temp rises enough that shifting behavior changes. Car cools down and works normally again. Looking for data points on cooling upgrades versus simply shortening sessions. If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 1968 Ford Mustang, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Austin with 14,500 miles. Was this after sitting overnight? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 1968 Ford Mustang before a big repair or a big spend. That's where I'd start. When does it actually happen? Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 1968 Ford Mustang in Austin, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. I'd do that before spending real money. On “high transmission temperature after several hard laps,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
