2024 Kia EV9 — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval

TruckDIYer599Community StarterOct 7, 20252024 Kia EV9 GT-LineWestchester
2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line, about 51,500 miles. I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR? I am in Westchester.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Westchester, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Kia EV9 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Kia EV9 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Kia EV9 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. Do that first. Sleeping on the number either way.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2024 Kia EV9 notes. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2024 Kia EV9 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2024 Kia EV9 in Westchester with 51,500 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Kia EV9 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2024 Kia EV9 in Westchester with 51,500 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Kia EV9 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Kia EV9 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Same neighborhood, different next step: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Kia EV9 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
